SHB in Flow Frame

I noticed a potential issue with one of my flow frames which allowed the SHB to collect in the bottom which is typically blocked off from the bees.

In this instance there was a small gap between the plastic which allowed the SHB to enter and live a happy life in the honey collection tube area without the bees affecting them, actually I had about 6-7 beetles in this one frame. The other frames didnt experience the same issue so prehaps just this frame had the issue. Given the frame was empty (few months old hive) it was easy to remove and wrap in cling film but I’ll probably buy a replacement frame given the small gap.

It may be worth other flow hive members checking the bottom and top of the frames for any pests due to how the plastic bits join together.

In this occasion I’ve had issues with this frame breaking apart so maybe user error.

Hi Ron and welcome! SHB in honey tubes, no good :-1: I’m tagging @Bianca and @Freebee2 to help you figure out if there’s a defect in that frame, or if maybe the wire tension on that frame just needs to be tightened.
