Smoker - Is it worth sealing the wood on the outside of the bellows

Is it worth sealing the wood on outside of the smoker bellows to keep it clean? Does it tend to get very dirty? If so what would be best to use to seal it? Would it have to be non toxic? Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the Flow forum!

I have never sealed mine. Yes, they do get an “aged” or “patina” look (dirty!), but it doesn’t affect function and they are a working tool. You should ask @JeffH for a look at his smokers, he probably isn’t too far from you, if you are in Buderim.

Hi & welcome to the forum.

Thank you Dawn

The smoker wood does get dirty. It’s mainly propolis from my gloves. The thing I would do is protect the wood from moisture on account that it’s only cheap ply that doesn’t do well with moisture when left out in the weather like mine does when I forget to put it under cover. The wood on my current smoker is showing early signs of de-lamination after only a couple of nights of moisture.

Hi everyone,

For more safety and easier use, I personally switched to Apisolis.
