New beekeeper here, enjoying my (learning) journey so far. Quick question, one of my side windows seems to be properly stuck. Tried running a knife around the edge from the outside but I’m worried I’ll damage it.
I’m guessing it’s from the timber expanding a bit, but could the bees have stuck it? Anything I can do from the outside, or do I need to remove the super and get to it from the inside.
I don’t know you could do much from the inside as the perspex is attached to the inside of the box.
If there’s gaps between the perspex and the wood of the box, the bees could have pushed some propolis in there but it should let go with a tug. Careful not to pull the box out of alignment though.
Let us know how you go.
The timber may have expanded during wet weather. I have seen Araucaria hives expand quite a bit, making the rear panel difficult to remove & replace. I’m guessing the side viewing window would be similar.
I doubt if the bees stuck it together, with perspex creating a barrier.
I managed to get it off today after a couple more attempts. I think it swelled in the wet weather, but there might also be a slight preference for how it fits. Re-inserting it 180 degrees seems to go in easier. I might sand the edges down slightly so it’s a looser fit.
