Using brood comb as starter wax in Flow Frames

Hi guys,
I think I have made a mistake, I have just put on the Flow super and have used a used brood frame as it had messy comb to help the bees start to use the frames.
Will they clean up the cocoons in the wax, I understand the comb will not go back to yellow once they chew it up but I am concerned they honey will come out dirty.

If so, would I be able to filter the honey as it comes out or do I need to take the frames out and clean them.

Thankyou!!

If I am understanding you correctly, you put melted wax/slum gum onto the flow frames to encourage the bees to work them? Was the comb from the same colony?

I think the bees will probably get it all spic and span before storing nectar and the honey will be fine. You can always filter it after harvest if you need to but I doubt you’ll be able to tell any difference.

Hi Rachael, the wax wont come back to yellow again on account of the cocoons. That wont matter because the honey will still be just as good. I would suggest adding a second frame, in case you decide to borrow a two frame extractor to harvest the honey after the bees have filled & capped them. That way the extractor wont wobble. Alternatively you could crush & strain the comb without using an extractor.

I don’t think you made a mistake, because I think it’s a great strategy.
