Which flowers did our honey come from?

Hello,

New family of beekeepers in their second year and we received our first successful harvests this year and have a few different colors. I was wondering if there is a trick to determine which flower source a particular honey is from. We have had lots of different potential sources blooming during our harvests this year (eucalyptus, orange blossom, sage, wild brassicas, sumac, and avocado). Our honey color has varied from almost transparent to dark amber colors. Haven’t found much information searching online so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jeffrey

Hello and welcome to the Flow forum!

There is no reliable trick. The only way to be sure is to send it off for analysis of the pollen types present, and that costs a couple of hundred dollars per sample! Not really viable for most hobbyists.

This book will give you some idea of what is flowering at specific times of year, but it sounds like you already have an idea of that:

You may need to email the author to buy the book. It doesn’t appear on his web site store any more… :face_with_monocle:
