We have been having a lot of wind in our area. Do I need to fasten the hive to a firm foundation?
You will need to make sure that the roof is secured. Most people do this with some bricks or even Spanish style roofing tiles on a gabled roof. You can also use ratcheting straps, either with ground stakes, or if your hive is on cinderblocks, just feed the straps through the openings in the blocks. The hive should be about 16" above ground level to make it harder for skunks and opossums to snack on your bees. That is why I mention the cinder blocks

Thank you very much. I thought about the ratchet straps but was wondering if others used them, that will be the way I go.
