I’m not in BC so maybe a local could help to chime in on local issues and whether a two brood box setup is something to consider.

Why did your hives not do well in the prior year?
Generally, adding a super (flow or otherwise) can be a good swarm control measure.
Adding a second brood box won’t necessarily require you to delay adding a flow super but your bees will need to build out the extra box.

I have a different approach, seeing as you are entering spring (swarm season). What about the idea of splitting the hive as a preemptive swarm control measure? In doing so, you can populate your second hive.

I am in Chilliwack. This will.be my first year beekeeping with 2 flow.hives and 2 other hives. 4 in total. I am registered and I have a great mentor.
I am reviving this thread to see if there are any new keepers or if the older Flow hive keepers have anything to add. Their experiences etc.
