This shrub seems to flower any time after rain, can anyone name it? The bees work it well and seems to be a native here on the Sunshine Coast Qld… Grows to about 6 metres and just as wide.

Cheers, Peter
Genus: cassia?
Maybe Sunshine tree? Yellow Candlewood?
The flower looks right Eric, but I thought, right or wrong, that Cassia, or Acacia have thorns and a seed pod but are not on this shrub.
Cheers, Peter
ok, it is an Acacia, thanks for the info. I dropped it off my list as I was expecting thorns and seed pods.
Cheers, Peter
I was just guessing. Good to know you got it figured out
Hello gents. I know I’m very late into your discussion but I have just joined the forum and can’t help myself when it comes to identifying weeds!
The plant in your picture is Senna Pendula var. glabrata, an introduced plant in the same family as our native Acacias (Fabacae) but quite different. It’s listed as a weed in most parts of the east coast. It’s mostly known as simply Senna or Cassia. You’re right, Eric, that is has long pods.
See https://keyserver.lucidcentral.org/weeds/data/media/Html/senna_pendula_var._glabrata.htm if you’re interested.
cheers,
Roger
