Flow Hive roof interior dimensions for a jar (for honeycomb)

I’m looking to get a little bit of honeycomb out of our Flow Hive. I’d like to avoid the mess of letting them free range in the entire roof cavity so was thinking about putting a jar in the roof, similar to the setup pictured here (in the 2nd post):

I’m trying to figure out what size jar would work best. Has anyone tried taking the interior “attic” dimensions or have recommendations?

If anyone has pictures of their honeycomb setup, I’d love to see them!

Cheers

I guess you could experiment with different size jars to see if the roof goes back on. If you choose a jar that’s too big, you could always fit a shim under the roof to compensate for it.

I have after considerable thought on the subject a suggestion which will yield about 3 kg of lovely straight comb. You could remove a center flow frame & replace it with an empty wooden frame with a bead of wax along the top slot. Make a follower board the thickness of the difference between the flow frame & wooden frame to place on one side. Place the wooden frame between two fully capped flow frames. During a honey flow the bees will build beautiful comb in that empty frame.

I’ve put an ideal box on top of the Flow super. 8 half size (approx) frames of delicious honeycomb.
The bees go for it but they do fill the actual flow frames a bit slower.
