I was there last night. Yep, a few meetings ago I talked to him as well and gave me the same opinion. Did you order your bees yet?
Yah ! I am fixed in the 10 frame world for a couple of years. Guess I was short thinking … We think we are younger than we are. I’ve been rethinking this issue of slowly converting to 8 framers I’d only have to start rebuilding hive bodies narrower. I’d planned on honey supers being mediums anyway. Down sizing if it doesn’t work with the 10 frames should be within reach with my small woodshop n Myself since I built the larger 10 frame hive boxes.
Now I want to just launch, remember n learn. So many memories of my teen years working together with my dad… In Vietnamese we say, “Ky niem tot lam.” ( loosely translated: I have great memories)…
Now good night. I think l’ll count bees instead of sheep tonight …
Gerald
Joey,
where you at the meeting tonight of the WillBees? I am so tired already of the president of the club dogging the flow hive system. He is testing but he seems hell bent on making sure it fails so he can say it is terrible.
duplicate ; -)…
I was there and Yep I agree. Actually my wife was there for the first time and on the way home we had this very conversation. She was disappointed that he would offer his opinion as such with out giving the product a chance nor any experience. He should know that being in such a position, his opinions may sway others and without facts nor experience he should just keep is opinions to himself. Grrrr. with that all said, I am at the point that I don’t care much if it works or don’t now. I am too invested in the bees at this point and so if it works great if not then I will continue without the frames. But Even it it doesn’t work for him doesn’t mean it won’t work for others. I’m beginning to assess my own opinion about him! Maybe he just want’s to justify all his hard work at extracting honey.
Rich,
Sorry a few bad narrow minded “Apples” are staying so closed minded. I do not have a Flow-Hive because I didn’t hear about it until it was too late for my Spring 2016 season. I made n assembled 3 pine 10 frame hive set up but if all goes as planned I will top at least one of these nest Spring/Summer 2017 season. I don’t have a closed mind to a new type of harvest method. Other than the Flow-Super its just a 8 frame Langstroth hive. So not sure where their problem n issue are developed. It’s a little Pricy but any new item usually is ! Look at computer n hand-calculators when they first came out …
Don’t let a few Wet Blankets ruin beekeeping for you. Good luck and happy beekeeping bro !
. . Wishing everyone with ’s a very lucky n happy St Patties Day ! . Gerald
I don’t think I am going to find out if it works this year or not. I am running a 2 deep brood boxes, and the bees might not fill that this year. So it may be a year before I have any honey and find out. It just will come as no surprise this year when he reports back that they failed. When he never gave it a shot.
Tell him you’re more than happy to take it off his hands when he does.
That is a great idea.
Hello local keepers! I’m in Plainfield IL and looking for local keepers who are open minded to the Flow system. Just received it as a gift . How are your hives and community going? Is there a local group that’s meeting? Online at least?
Much love merry Christmas
Hello and welcome to the Flow forum!
You can use the Search tool at the upper right (magnifying glass icon) to search for information. There are plenty of Flow hive owners in Illinois and neighboring states who are doing well with Flow hives. If you join a local beekeeping group, I would suggest that you say that you have a Langstroth hive and don’t mention the “Flow” part to start with. Your hive management should be exactly the same as for local beekeepers, it is just that the extraction method is different. Local advice will be very valuable for everything except harvesting the honey. If your locals use 2 brood boxes (likely), then you should too. All advice about feeding, treating for disease etc, you should follow local advice.
We will help you with extraction advice, and general beekeeping, but local hints are very valuable. Please ask again if we can help with anything else, and meanwhile, here is what I have found about Illinois on a first search:

Thank you for the tips!! I’ll check out that link! I did a quick search and came across this Joliet form. I was searching for a hive source and Wondering if someone local would like to split
