Hi all. Just wondering which way people orientate their frames. Parallel or perpendicular to the opening? Cheers
In the flow hive they only go one way, which is perpendicular to the opening.
From what I understand, perpendicular is standard practice. There was some discussion on the subject not long after this forum started. My traditional frames are all perpendicular.
Does anyone do different with a warre hive?
It makes no difference but people have their favourite ways. Traditionally ‘warm’ is parallel to the front and ‘cold’ is perpendicular, but I don’t think it makes any difference to the bees.
It might be more important to the beekeeper as our hands get used to inspecting the hive depending on its orientation.
