Cedar explains that the Flow Hive allows beekeepers to harvest honey directly from the hive while keeping different flavours separate by collecting from individual frames, rather than mixing everything together as in traditional methods. Because bees visit different flowers over time, each frame can produce honey with distinct colours, tastes, and even properties-such as medicinal qualities from certain plants like leptospermum. The system works by inserting a key to create channels in the comb, so honey flows out with minimal disturbance to the bees, making the process easier, less labour-intensive, and gentler compared to conventional extraction, which requires removing and spinning frames and often mixes honey from multiple sources.
