How wonderful - making beekeeping even more accessible than ever!
I pulled the trigger on the amazeballs contraption! Whoop! Now my senior self can wrangle with the hives easier! WHOOP Game changer! Wavin from Brentwood TN at my long lost FH buddies! Life took me away for a bit as I had to help my Mom end her life with love. But I’ve missed yall! Back to bee keeping! Hurray!
Hi Eva! I hope your having a great day!
Missed you, Martha
Sounds like it’s been quite a time for you though. How special that you were able to light your mom’s way from this world with your love. But I know you must miss her. My condolences, friend
I’m eager to hear how you find the new gizmo. Any signs of spring where you are yet? We’re due for another big snowfall and some bitter cold nights next week. My four colonies are snuggled up and still humming…
So happy you’re back
We are still in the winter so I’m giving my apiary a make over. I am excited about the lifting gizmo because the brood boxes and super are really heavy and I have to get the hubby to help and he’s kinda a pain in the rump cuz he’s so afraid of getting stung even with all the gear I put on him. OH the DRAMA! LOL! He is sweet to fight his fear to help me though. This contraption aught to liberate me from seeking help digging into the hives. This will speed things up too as when I dig into the hives a have to fill a wagon with a brood box to take frames out individually to lighten the load.
Yesterday I was at an experienced bee keepers home and we built frames using a jig. I have a jig but lost the directions on how to use it so to my luck it was the same kind! We had a blast working together creating a fresh new start for my apiary. My friend also came over and helped me extract honey from my flow hive so she could wrap her mind around how I do things a few summers ago. She said she was jelous about the time saving honey harvest but is dug in to deep with all her equipment to transition as she also hosts 25 hives. Plus I forgot mention how crappy the frames I built a few years ago lasted! My first run with tiny nails and wood glue came apart with doing an inspection and it was full of brood. So I had one frame with no bottom bar makeing a mess! That stunk I can verify it! This run is much better built using an air gun for staples and wood glue.
How goes your apiary?
Thank you for the condolences as it was a very tough year my Mom and her room mate sister died 1 week apart and I was close with them both. They are out of pain and dementia so it’s a blessing.
Nice to have a fresh start with the bees and focus on new life
My four colonies are ok - they’re wrapped and fed and thankfully haven’t been blown over in the ferocious wind we’ve had here for the past 36 hours. After this week of more cold and snow I’ll start watching for trees to flower - the bees tend to build up to swarm prep very fast when that begins! Next weekend I’ll be in the shed, refurbishing boxes to get ready for those splits!
