Thanks dawn. I look forward to any and all help.
Hello, I am also in Arkansas and newlyrics keeping bees. Around which part are you in and how has it gone so far?
Hi Julie,
I was curious how you plan to deter bears. My daughter lives in Eagle River and has them in her garden all the time.
Electric fences seem to be the answer I see given most often.
I am yet to be a beekeeper. I live in Anderson S.C.and am trying to site the best spot for a Flow hive.
I also have a grandson who has a conventional hive in SW Virginia and would like to get him started. The temperature in winter is Hardiness Zone 6, I am in HZ 8. I am a retired landscape designer/horticultural consultant, age 74. Anybody near here?
Hey everyone,
Iām from Berne, Switzerland and iām starting in my first bee season! Really excited to dive into the beeworld!
Iām new to the forum , we have an established traditional
Bee Hive and just purchased the Honey Flo and it is assembled and ready to go.
My question is if I set the honey flow box next to my established traditional hive , will the bees migrate into the honey flow box and start a new colony.
Hi there and welcome!
The answer to your question is⦠it depends. If a passing swarm finds your new hive, they might decide to like it and stay, but they might not. Bees from the hive next door will stay with their queen and her brood, unless she decides to swarm. So the only ways to populate your new hive are:
- Buy new bees - a package or a nucleus, both with a queen.
- Split your existing hive if it is strong, especially if it looks likely to swarm (queens cells being made and populated)
- Catch a swarm locally, and hope it has a queen in it - most do, but not all, and even if they do, sometimes the queen gets left behind during the capture.
Anyhow, it seems like you have a lot to learn. Read as much as you can on this forum, join a local beekeeping club and get some books about beekeeping and bee biology.
Good luck!
Dawn
Thanks Dawn ,

Hi, Iām Steven, in Melbourne, Australia. Just received my 6 frame classic flow hive. Learning about beekeeping before getting a brood from South Eastern Beekeeping group in spring (thatās around September here in Australia). Very exciting! I love bees and I love honey. Thanks Flow Hive team for the inspiration to take the leap to beekeeping! Hoping to find some Australia specific threads on the forum (or I might createā¦). Warm wishes to all!
Thank you Stu, you are a genius! It was the flow hive that got me interested in bee keeping. I could sit all day watching them work it is a relaxing exercise, thank you. I have a question, I installed my bees and the queen into the brood box on 4/4. I have not received my flow frames yet so should I be worried. What is a good time to install the flow frames after introducing the bees and should I be concerned? Thanks again!
Hi all, I am in The San Francisco bay area of California. Got my pkg of bees and installed last weekend. I have a question about the feeder I bought: I got from a supplier and it doesnāt really fit into the Flow Hive opening correctly. I have been told to feed at least at the beginning. Has anyone else had this problem, what do you suggest? This one was from Mann Lake.
Thanks!
