The weather has been so insane in the Southeast US. I was really not sure what to expect anymore. I removed the honey super today. I seem to have pretty much exhausted it’s usefulness for the year and I want them to focus on making honey in the brood hive now in time for Fall/Winter. Also, I started seeing hive beetles and I wanted to start trapping them and feeding them less. I could NOT believe how many bees I have in there. I was a little worried by the number of beetles I saw trying to get in the honey super. I inspected the brood box and holy moly the bees are absolutely energized and super populated which made me mighty happy! I could not see any beetles in the brood box but I baited anyway because those little sucker are probably hiding. I got the Foxhound Bee Company Beetle Traps, Extra Long. I put 4 in for now and see what it looks like in a week. I also did a varroa test and came back clean. I am over the moon as I was really afraid I was going to see a overrun hive. They were again extremely aggressive but I am getting used to them crawling all over me now when I open the hive up. The new suit is a massive savior because, call me a wimp if you like, getting stung is a real morale killer. But all is well apparently. Planning for the winter is now in full steam ahead because it might be a bad one of those too according to the weather people.
