Don’t laugh but, if the Queen excluder in place, how do the bees get into the Flow super? Trying to visualize in my head.
Hello and welcome to the Flow forum!
The holes in the queen excluder are large enough to allow worker bees to pass through. However, queens and drones have a bigger thorax (the part between the head and the abdomen) and this won’t go through the gaps. The excluder probably does slow down workers a bit, but not enough to affect hive efficiency.
So now you know!
Thank you Dawn. I am in the know:)
If you want a visualization of it, think of Sylvester Stallone trying to get his shoulders between the bars of some railings. His head might fit, but shoulders get stuck. Then think of a very skinny person. Same railings and bars, they can squeeze through quite easily!
You are cracking me up! I’ll never get that visual out of my head. Rocky: Yo Adriane! I’m stuck..
Sometimes I think the queen is like the T1000 in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator 2. Melting her body through the bars and getting her gun stuck. There is the remote alternative that the bars might be bent though.
