Will the bees fill this gap between the brood box and hive stand?

Hello everyone!

So I’m not sure if I’m being overly particular or if this is something I should be concerned about so I figured I’d ask some of you seasoned vets

I assembled and painted my flow hive and everything seemed to fit pretty good. When I went to set it up the day before the bees arrived, I noticed the brood box wasn’t sitting 100% flush on the stand. The box doesn’t rock back and forth or anything (so no obvious high points) but you can see some daylight through it. I have a photo below which I hope illustrates what I’m talking about. The pic is from the side panel looking toward the hive entrance (I have the entrance reducer on so the square is the opening).

I’d say the gap is ~1/16"

My questions is - will the bees fill this slight gap with propolis or do I need to take some kind of action to fix it? My initial thought was - bees have survived in holey trees, nooks and crannies so they should be able to patch this right up. That being said - I love them and want to make sure I do everything I can to help them thrive. I also don’t want to disrupt them right now since I just installed them and they’re working hard to get settled.

I appreciate any help in advance and I’m excited to join this community!

Thank you,

--Cat

Don’t worry, they will fill it very quickly with wax and propolis.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi Cat, welcome to the forum. I agree that the bees will fill the gap with propolis. I like that you’re thinking along the lines of what bees do in the natural world.
