Hi, my bees are just settling into the Flow Hive 2 and I don’t know how to use the multifunctional tray. The only description I was able to find is that it’s multifunctional but what are all the functions? How do I use it as a beetle trap? What else can it do? Thank you!
You can fill the tray with diatomaceous earth or vegetable oil to kill SHB that drop through the screen. The tray is closed off to the outside, so no bees can get in.
For harvesting or inspecting, you can turn the tray over for it to create a solid bottom under the screen. If any honey drips down, the bees can lap it up.
Some beekeepers prefer solid bottom always, to let the bees clean house themselves.
