I’ve seen hives w screens under the tray and now FlowHive doesn’t provide it. Should I add one? I know the tray may keep critters out but on hot days if you remove the tray, seems like a good add.
With the screen above the tray, this stops bees getting into the tray, nothing should be able to get up around the tray, as it sits on the metal rails on the base and is pushed to the front of the hive with the cover closing off the other end. My thought is a mesh under the base would likely just gather debris upon removing and inserting the tray, and possibly result in some bees getting in if ever you are cleaning the tray off and then not being able to get out easily.
