Hello from Florida, USA!

Hi all, We received our flow hive 2+ a few months ago and are working on educating ourselves to be prepared and excellent beekeepers. We are determined and excited, but a little overwhelmed with all the information. Hoping to find some beekeepers in our local area. I have been looking to connect with local groups, but haven’t found many active ones. We are a family of 6 with a 6 acre homestead in Polk City, FL…

Welcome to the forum and to beekeeping, the best obsession in the world.

Florida has many beekeepers and if you get the opportunity, I suggest you pay a visit to the University of Florida Honey Bee Lab in Gainesville. It’s one of the very best in the country with wonderful courses for all levels of beekeeping.

Closer to home would be the Ridge Beekeepers Association with meetings at Bartow https://www.ridgebeekeepers.com/

Good luck with your beekeeping adventures. There’ll be ups and downs along the way. We’re here for both. Most importantly, have fun.

Cheers,

Mike

Ditto to all Mike said :raising_hands:

Do a search here too, for Flow keepers in FL and other southern states - beekeeping with a Flow hive is mostly identical to how it’s done using traditional Lang equipment and other styles, but with a few tweaks (and of course the huge bonus of easy harvests). Be aware that some traditional beeks you may encounter at clubs and classes can be very skeptical or even negative towards Flow gear. Legitimate criticism has been due to people starting beekeeping with a Flow hive thinking that because harvesting is easier, the whole thing is a piece of cake! Which it certainly isn’t. But you already have shown your thoughtfulness and openness to learning, and thus will surely be successful as long as you persist

Keep us posted on how things go!
