Hello from Ipwich Queensland, my wife and I just purchased flow hive 2+, we have been researching for some time, now it all becomes real.

So far have assembled the hive, then pulled apart to seal the cedar and paint the roof. Using good quality paint for the roof, painted off white, Using Tung Oil for the external surfaces, thinking 3 coats should be sufficient, wanted to preserve the timber look.

Just getting to grips with this forum, looks like a excellent resource for newbies, looking forward to continuing the learning,

Welcome to beekeeping the Flow way to both of you. You’re in for a wonderful journey that will bring some frustrations, some pain, a steep learning curve, responsibility and masses of fun.

I recommend joining a club where you’ll shorten the learning time, have access to the accumulated knowledge and maybe even a mentor to get you on your way.

Be prepared to redo the Tung oil once or twice a year for maintenance. The cedar will tend to grey over time.
