Hello from the Northern Rivers

Hello all,

I’m from the Far North Coast / Northern Rivers region in NSW. My dad and I have become very recent bee enthusiasts after discovering and being amazed by the Flow Hive. We are locals here, growing up in rural areas gave me a strong affinity with nature and the seasons from an early age – we had lots of birds, chickens, frogs, and cows around (not to mention the snakes!), and if you ask me there is no better way to spend your childhood than up in a tree or running around in the paddocks.

We are newbies to bee-keeping, but super excited about getting started with a flow hive and discovering all about these marvellous little creatures. :honeybee: Looking forward to meeting folks and learning all I can.

Cheers,
Jess

Welcome to beekeeping and the forum, Jess and to your dad.
You’ll find this the most rewarding and at times frustrating of pastimes. There are a couple of Amateur Beekeepers Australia club in your area. One meets at Ballina and the other at Lithgow. I recommend you go along to each to see which one suits you. Find them here: www.beekeepers.asn.au
The best way to get started, in my opinion is to do a class or two and join a club for ongoing support and mentoring. Clubs usually run beginning in bees classes.
Most of all have fun.

Welcome Jess,
There are lots of great info in this group and can let you know where to find it. I hope it all goes well for you and you can learn from other peoples mistakes. My biggest tip would be don’t do it when you are tired, that seems to be the only time I do something wrong and the bees know it🫣
Another one is that slow mo video on your is great and I video all my inspections it is very helpful as I do them on my own.

Thanks Mike and Novi, I appreciate the kind welcome and the helpful tips. I’ve joined the Northern Rivers bee club now so looking forward to meeting folks.

Haha Novi I always make the worst mistakes when tired so that’s a good tip to remember (and slow-mo video! great idea.)
