I would like Tips for a Novice Beekeeper on Establishing a Flow Hive

Hello everyone,

I have been doing a lot of research but there is so much information out there that its a bit overwhelming; I would love some advice from experienced beekeepers on how to get started properly with my Flow Hive setup.

What is the best time of year to introduce bees to the hive?
There are any tools or accessories I should have on hand that are especially helpful for beginners??
What should I look out for in terms of common challenges in the first few months of beekeeping, particularly with a Flow Hive??

As well, I found these resources when doing research on this; https://forum.honeyflow.com/t/looking-for-advice-on-if-i-should-start-beekeepingminitab & if anyone have any resources, tutorials or personal experiences please share with me, It would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you… :slightly_smiling_face:

Welcome to the forum, Kieranas.

You’re in luck. You are at the tail end of your season. Spring is the time to populate your hives with bees, so you can learn ahead of time.

Join your local club. They usually run beginner classes and have experienced beekeepers to mentor you. Some old beeks are anti Flow, but there are plenty of others who will help you. You might source your bees from the club too.

There are some excellent videos online too, but rubbish as well. Stick to the ones produced by universities. Jamie Ellis from University of Florida has a series especially for the new beekeeper. The Flow video series is also very good.

Enjoy the learning experience, it never stops.
